Chain-drive Garage Door Opener
These are the oldest and least expensive style of garage door opener. While they are popular and cost effective they can be noisy and may not be an ideal choice if there is a living space above or adjacent to the garage.
Alternatively, some people may appreciate the sound of the garage door as a warning that someone is about to enter the home and therefore wouldn't mind the noise created by the chain-drive opener.
Belt-drive openers
Exactly the same as chain-drive openers with the exception that they use a rubber belt instead of a chain. They are incredibly quiet because there is no metal on metal contact like the chain-drive opener. Belt-drive openers are middle range in regard to cost.
Jackshaft openers
Unlike the other systems this type of opener mounts on the wall beside the garage door. Jackshaft openers are reliable and quiet while keeping the ceiling of your garage free for storage. These are the most expensive option in regard to garage door openers.
