When you are choosing a door there alot of things to consider, one of which is whether or not you would like your door to be insulated or not. This may seem like a simple question, but there are lots of things to consider. Insulated doors are more expensive than non-insulated, so if you don't require one, there is no reason to spend extra money unnecessarily. Questions you should ask yourself:
Do you heat or air condition your garage?
What is the weather like where you live?
Is your garage attached or detached?
Do you work or hang out in your garage alot?
Do you have heat or AC in your garage?
If the answer is yes then you will definitely want an insulated door with a high R-value or your energy bills will skyrocket and you will essentially be paying to heat or cool the outside of your house.
If the answer is no, then you may only require a non-insulated door.
What is the weather like where you live?
If you live in an area that experiences weather extremes (i.e. Canada) you will want a garage that has effective temperature control. Again taking into consideration what you are using your garage for and whether it is attached or detached from your home
Is your garage attached or detached?
If your garage is attaached to your home and is directly beside or below a living space then having an insulated door on your garage will ensure that those living spaces remain temperature controlled as well as ensuring that your energy bills are not effected.
Do you spend time in your garage?
If you work out of, or spend leisure time in your garage it would be beneficial to ensure that it is temperature controlled for your comfort.
